Just another truck load…..

Of mulch! That’s right, taking this spring thing up a notch and getting into doing the annual application of mulch to the dirt/plant landscaping. While I assume this is nothing new to a lot of folks, I, for one, have never had to apply mulch to anything. Then again, I did sp[end a lot of years in a tiny apartment in New York City so no real calls for mulching in that case (or outdoor grilling on the BBQ)! And yes, original Pulpland did have a yard in Austin, Texas, but we actually went the rock garden route there, which is a lot like applying mulch, however, you only have to do it once. Plus most of the yard was actually woods with trees (and critters) so gain, no real need for mulch. Anyway, new Pulpland is set up a bit differently and has a whole lot of landscaping going on, front of house, left and right sides of front lawn, sides of house, multiple gardens in the backyard, left/right sides of backyard, etc.…I think you get the gist. In addition, previous owners also did a lot of plant planting so things start beginning to pop now and just continue on coming through the summer, which is very nice indeed. Like a staggered start race, each day/week brings something new. But also, quite a lot of work to maintain and upkeep (as I hear the neighbors mower going already)!

We only arrived here about this time last year so it really took going through the seasons to see what we had going on, and now that we know, time to get busy. Which is cool, as mentioned, I never had to mulch in the past but I am finding it highly enjoyable at the moment. Of course, check back in with me next year (or a couple weeks from now) and see how I feel about it. On a bright note, the town we are in actually makes and sells mulch by the “bucket” full from the yard waste/trimmings/tree limbs it collects and or gets dropped off at their site. A “bucket” being the complete back of a pickup truck, which is a decent amount. It also beats buying it by the bag when you’ve got large areas to cover. So I am driving down to their facility daily, often dropping yard debris we’ve picked up first and then loading with mulch. Got my drop cloth in the driveway as a landing spot for spare mulch and often just directly shovel out of the truck and into our new 10 cubic foot Gorilla Cart wagon which, my friends, is a true game changer when it comes to getting the mulch where it needs to be.

Time to go get another truck load! Posted some progress pics on the New Pulp page so give them a look when you can. Will try to get out an update next week but have something that needs to be taken care of so if you don’t hear from me, no worries, all is well and I’ll be back on the air before you know it. Peace for now!
