And with the flip of a coin….
The 2022 NFL football season has begun! Week 1 and a 2nd Thursday night game in the books as I write this. I do say this is very welcome news on my end, “big fan” as they like to say. And it’s like it almost never really went away. What do I mean by that? Well, first off, I like to watch some of the sports talk shows in the morning, just to see what’s going on and/or catch up on my favorite teams status. These days, however, seems there really are only two sports, NFL Football and NBA Basketball. At least that’s pretty much all they talk about on the sports shows. Sure there will be the occasional blip of news about something else, a big college football game, a Major event in golf or tennis, someone hitting a lot of home runs or throwing a no hitter in baseball, etc., but for the most part, it is NFL and NBA 95% of the time even when they are both in off season mode. To me, the big news this summer was the complete collapse of my NY Yankees after the all start break, but that’s not what dominated the sports talk. Nope, it was all about how Kevin Durant demanded a trade from the Brooklyn Nets and what that meant for basketball. Think about that, 6 months to go until the season starts and that became the “breaking” and on going news for nearly 2 months. Yes, of course they talked about football the rest of the time as that season starts much earlier but you get the picture, there really are only two sports that get talked about these days. The one good thing is, I do happen to like both of them and as I am a fan of the NY Knicks and the NY Jets, I realize my teams will never be very good so it does free me up to watch all teams and not have a tremendous rooting interest in who wins or not, essentially, I just plain get to enjoy the sport as is, which is nice!
That said, I do feel bad for baseball. I mean, c’mon, it is still referred to as the “National Pastime” of all things. But clearly it is not anymore and that’s not the end of the world, it just reflects changing times. Pretty sure apple pie is not the number 1 dessert either. I still be rooting for the Yankees come playoff time and I just hope someone shows the games on TV so I can watch. At least there is no shortage, in general, of sports to watch this time of year so we’ve got that going for us.
Off to get the new tile saw (check out the Pulp Improvement section on the New Pulp page, it will all make sense). See you next week!
