And like a….

Bat out of hell! R.I.P. to Mister Marvin Lee Aday, aka, Meat Loaf who passed away yesterday. While not always popular to say you were a fan (not really sure why that was), I have always been one and that’s not about to change. Yup, big and overweight, not exactly leading man good looks but that voice just gets me every time. Super sucker for “Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad” (“You’ll never find your gold on a sandy beach, you’ll never drill for oil on a city street…”, classic)! And for those who didn’t know, he also starred and was on the original soundtrack recording of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show”, which, but of course, I happen to have. Oh yeah, he was also in the movie “Fight Club”. I have fond memories of sitting in a car full of friends and all singing along with “Paradise by the Dashboard Light” (if you turn it up loud enough in a car, really dopes’t matter how bad you butcher it). So, with that, Cheers to Sir Meat Loaf, you truly did bring me joy!

Here in Pulpland, we’re in the midst of a cold spell, in the teens the past couple mornings with wind chills of I don’t even want to say! Since last week, we’ve been doing some “cosmetic” work on the new old house, hanging art/pictures, installing door knobs/catches, etc. as we wait for some additional master bath wall tile. One more full bathroom reno to go (the guest room) and we are coming up with a game plan for design and finishes (it works just fine at the moment so still being used). Funny thing happened while installing a new electric garage heater for the Pulp Workshop. In short, I had a look at the install manual to see what was needed for the electric hook up, simply put, this was a 208V unit (meaning two hot power feeds) with a ground so off to Depot I went to get me a new two pole breaker and some number 8 wire (it draws slightly over 30 amps) thus requiring what they call 8/2 wire or two leads and a ground. Well, they didn’t have that so I ended up with 8/3 wire which has the additional neutral feed which I would just cap and not use. And then the install, I open up the panel on the heater and low and behold, the two hot feed landings each had two terminals, one that said “L” and one that said “N”. This was a bit of a surprise so I did what I would always do in this situation, I called the company up to get a clarification. They only allow you to speak to customer service as an option so after being on hold for a bit, someone picked up. I asked for tech support, and she said she was tech support (pleasant surprise?). I explained the situation in detail and received the following response…”We can’t answer that kind of question”! Immediately I was a little off put, my response being….”What?”. She came back with that same answer, so figuring they got confused between what customer service and tech support are, I mentioned again that I needed to speak with tech support. She once again said she was tech support and that I needed to consult an outside engineer with my question. Here’s the funny, I am an Engineer! Hoping that might get me an answer, I let her know that. Nada…silence… then the same “I needed to consult an Engineer” speak as I was hanging up on her.

After consulting myself and with no help from the manufacturer, we’ll be installing the neutrals to the L1 and L2 terminals just as soon as I get some additional wire! All for now, see you next week!
