Who turned off the…..
Heat! I must say, seems Fall had an agreement with the calendar and came in right on schedule this past week. Kudos to good timing and temps back in the mid 80’s this weekend so “take that” fall. Overnights were in the upper 40’s/low 50’s on the first full day of fall, which, quite honestly was a bit refreshing, however, I am not quite ready to go down that path just yet so very happy for the pending return of late summer. A very cool Harvest Moon (got a nice pic of it on the New Pulp page) appeared on Monday this week and was so big and full it has pretty much been there for the last week or so, providing quite the moonlight glow and reminding me of the song by Neil Young.
Typically, summer is my favorite time of year as I do enjoy the sun and heat, prefer to wear shorts at all times and find it is just a better time to get projects (especially outside ones) done. Then there was this year. Here we are at week 5 on the post surgery rehab tour of 2021 (thinking about getting some tee shirts made up to mark the occasion). Needless to say, not a lot got done on the old project scene since the early August heart failure diagnosis. Still looking at the Pulp Patio leveling job which has stood still at about 90% completion, and the planned to follow that Pulp Deck and Sunroom work that never began. In short, second half of summer wasn’t what I expected it to be!
But I am alive, which is nice, and I am looking forward to a very bright future, what with the new and improved heart valve that should increase my productivity immensely. And I did start cooking on the grill again (kicked it off with steak tenderloins and baked potatoes). Had a few beers and played guitar last night, working on some new/old songs. Still haven’t got the breath back, amazing how much your sternum continues to hurt after the open heart procedure, especially with deep breaths and coughs and/or sneezes. But we’ll get there. Actually seem to have some sort of higher pitched, Neil Young (Featured artist today) vocal thing going on now, which I reckon is not horrible.
But it doesn’t stop there. Just this morning I flipped on the Ryder Cup (golf tournament) so we now have that going on (big golf fan). And oh yeah, baseball is just coming down to the wire with playoff possibilities galore (at least for some teams, FYI, I am a Yankee fan, born and raised so just letting you know). Football, both college and NFL are in full swing now, with only Tuesdays and Wednesdays being the only days when you can’t catch a live game, if I am not mistaken. This year already got interesting and it has only just started (FYI, I am a Jets fan so consider that penance for being a Yankees fan please).
And if you don’t like sports, well, post surgery rehab also allows you to do quite a bit of channel surfing on the TV and there is just a whole world of interesting programs going on now with the multitude of streaming services that exist (many of which come free with certain cable/phone/internet subscriptions so make sure you fully vet yours). Anyway, just finished up 3 seasons of Yellowstone and looking to start up the new Ken Burns doc on Mohammed Ali.
My main point today being, fall doesn’t suck even though I am a much bigger fan of summer! Lots to do and sometimes you just have to re-direct yourself when faced with certain situations of which you cannot control. Setting my sights on Thanksgiving (that’s about when I should have the full thumbs up to return to doing all the things I used to do normally). Did I mention, doc said I could start driving again so if you see me coming, best get out of the way!!
Go team USA and will see you all next week!
